Leading with Faith and Purpose with His Eminence Cardinal Dolan

Today, Clarke Murphy sits down with His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan, a well-known leader in the Catholic church, in the New York City community, and around the world. Cardinal Dolan shares his path to leadership roles in the Church and how he looks at developing the next generation of Church leaders. He talks about what goes into electing the next Pope and lessons on leading through uncertainty. He’ll explore the commonalities that business and religious leaders have when it comes to the challenge of earning and developing trust. And he shares his views on the role of faith in today’s world of technology and change.

Timothy Cardinal Dolan
Archbishop, New York Archdiocese

Timothy Dolan is the oldest of five children born to Robert and Shirley Dolan in St. Louis in 1950.

His education was at Holy Infant Grade School in Ballwin, Missouri; high school and college at the seminaries of the Archdiocese of St. Louis; theology at the North American College in Rome; and doctoral studies in Church history at The Catholic University of America.

Ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of St. Louis in on June 19, 1976, he served as parish priest for eight years, as secretary to the Apostolic Nuncio in Washington, D.C., as a professor at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary and St. Louis University, and as rector of the North American College in Rome.

In 2001, he was appointed auxiliary bishop of his home diocese by Pope St. John Paul II, who, a year later, named him archbishop of Milwaukee.  Pope Benedict XVI transferred him to the Archdiocese of New York in 2009.  He was elevated to the College of Cardinals in 2012.

He has served as President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Chairman of the Board of Catholic Relief Services, and the co-chair of the National Jewish-Catholic Dialogue.  Cardinal Dolan currently serves as a member of the Dicastery for Eastern Rite Churches and the Dicastery for Evangelization, and chairman of the Papal Foundation. He participated in the conclave which elected Pope Francis in 2013, and it was his honor to host Pope Francis during his pastoral visit to New York in 2015.  In 2025, he participated in the conclave that elected Pope Leo XIV.
