Drawing on insights from RRA 2026 Global Corporate Governance Trends Report, the discussion explored how boards are responding to heightened expectations around AI, leadership continuity, and organizational resilience in an increasingly complex environment.

Rich Fields, Caris Wong and Nicholas Anderson shared practical perspectives from their work advising boards, CEOs, and investors around the world. Together, they examined how leading organizations are evolving governance practices, preparing for leadership transitions, and building resilience amid growing uncertainty.

Five themes emerged from the discussion:

  • AI and digital oversight have become core board responsibilities, requiring directors to strengthen their understanding of AI strategy, governance, cybersecurity, and risk management as adoption accelerates across organizations.

  • Expectations around board effectiveness continue to rise, with regulators, investors, and exchanges placing greater emphasis on board composition, independence, succession planning, and long-term value creation.

  • CEO succession is increasingly viewed as an ongoing strategic priority, with leading boards taking a more proactive approach to leadership continuity, talent visibility, and future readiness.

  • Family-controlled and founder-led organizations are evolving their governance models to support growth, public market readiness, generational transitions, and the integration of external leadership and expertise.

  • Geopolitical and regulatory volatility are putting resilience at the center of the board agenda, prompting boards to strengthen oversight of strategy, supply chains, risk preparedness, and crisis response capabilities.
